Why Fast?

In our journey toward spiritual maturity, we often find ourselves going through the motions without understanding the deeper 'why' behind our practices. This message challenges us to examine the authenticity of our spiritual disciplines, particularly fasting—a practice rarely discussed yet profoundly significant in Scripture. Drawing from Matthew 6:16-18, we're reminded that Jesus warned against performing religious acts for public admiration. The Pharisees would disfigure their faces and broadcast their fasting to gain human praise, but Jesus instructs us to fast in secret, where our Father who sees in secret will reward us. Fasting isn't about weight loss or impressing others—it's about voluntarily abstaining from physical nourishment to focus on spiritual sustenance. We fast to humble ourselves before God, acknowledging that He is the center of the universe, not us.
